Dattatreya
Jayanti is the birth
anniversary of Lord
Dattatreya, who was a popular saint wiseman & sapient man. This festival
occurs in December or January during Margasheersha month on the full moon day. This god is the son of Anasuya and
Atri Maharshi. In 2013, Datta Jayanti falls on Monday, 16th December.
Dattatreya
is regarded as the avatar of Lord Vishnu, Shiva and Brahma. On this day, in
human form the Trimurti God appeared on earth to guide
humanness. On Margasheersha purnima day, people worship and carry out
procession. Dattatreya is one the most
important of
Vedas, Yugas, states of the Word, states of Existence and the Philosophy of Oneness. Use Dattatreya Jayanthi
for deep Meditation and for reflection about your True Nature, about Brahman. Dattatreya
is called Avadhuta, the One without Clothes. This signifies his Vairagya,
detachment. Dattatreya is pictured with the cow and the dogs, symbol of the most
and least sacred creatures. Everybody can attain enlightenment.
According
to historical story the child form of the lord is worshipped Margasheersha month on the full
moon day. As per the Goddess parvati,
Saraswati and Lakshmi were proud of their loyalty towards their husbands. When
Lord Narad Muni gets to know about it, he gasconade about the austerity of Anusya
mata towards her husband. All the three goddess decide to challenge Anusaya
Sati Dharma, and Lord Dattatreya was the result of this test.
